MAGALIA COMMUNITY GARDEN

In the fall of 2023, a group of interested gardeners from Magalia came together, with guidance from the Butte County Local Food Network, to establish a community garden on an unused portion of the park. With funding from the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, this dream became a reality.

The Magalia Community Garden hosts 12 raised beds of varying sizes for rent by individuals at a modest cost and includes an ADA compliant bed and compost bins located near the entrance. The gardeners also cooperatively grow in two large community beds to provide food free to the community at the garden's food stand. A community orchard adjacent to the garden and native plantings for pollinators complete the vision for the garden and are under development. The philosophy of the gardeners has been that we can heal ourselves as we engage with the land and one another to grow healthy food using sustainable and organic approaches.
